Startups urged to join Nairobi innovation tour

Startups in Nairobi have been urged to join the Innovation Tour Nairobi beginning September 17 – 21 in the city in a move that will enable them learn from peers and connect to them to networks for mentoring, international media and investment.

The tour will conduct physical tours in Nairobi’s tech hubs in a move to showcase Africa’s technology scene to both local and international entrepreneurs.

The tour also aims to build international networks of those who will be on it, help them exchange innovative ideas, enrich their knowledge, explore job opportunities, expand their current businesses, or invest in sustainable business models in Nairobi-Africa’s technology hub.

According to Aurélie Salvaire, the founder of A Factor, the Spanish organization behind the tour, startups in the region have much to gain from the tour.”The  innovation tour Nairobi is a learning journey in which a select group will meet local entrepreneurs, start-ups, incubators, investors, journalists, artists, or even activists, in emerging markets,” she said while visiting Nailab, a Nairobi business incubator.

Based in Barcelona, A Factor links innovators worldwide with resources to help them reach their maximum potential. The tour has been divided into modules that cater to a variety of interests. It has specific excursions, visits, and talks as well as one-on-one networking opportunities and a personalized program.

The tour will showcase innovations in the city, be it technological, social, artistic, political and will also provide opportunities for startup entrepreneurs for  partnerships, mentoring and investment.

The tour will be divided into visits for mobile applications and tech innovations,  social business or philanthropy, corporations and business and investors,  journalism and academia,  women’s empowerment and arts or activism and fashion designers.

Interested local startup entrepreneurs can pay a fee of Ksh 6,000 for a one day workshop, one-on-one networking opportunities and opportunities for mentoring and investment.
